Disk Partition A;/ Drive??

By ngen255 ·
hello. I recently deleted a partition on my hard drive(cause i'm an idiot), and i need to repartition my hard drive. however, everytime i try to partition it using the FDISK command, it creates an A:/ drive, instead of a C:/ drive, so when i go to install windows 98, the cd looks for a C:/ drive and can't find one, so i can't install it. what can i do to reinstall windows98? thanks for all the help

Hi,

I've not heard of this before. Is the floppy drive working? Also, do you have a working partition you can install W98 on?

I did find this link which may help you out though:-

There's a heap ofinfo on FDISK. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Regards,

Andy

Boot from the win 98 boot disk that came with your system, if you still can't see your hard drive, there is probably a problem with the hard drive, flex cable or SCSI/motherboard...

Do a search on the net for delpart.exe There are lots of places to download it from and it's free. Put it on a bootable floppy and delete all partitions. THEN, using a Win98 boot disk use fdisk to format and partition your drive. Don't forget to set an ACTIVE partition. I still don't understand what you mean about fdisk creating an A:\ drive, though.

Make sure you have set the partition ACTIVE. Thats option 2. Then format the partition after rebooting.
