Displaying drive letters in Office '97 a

By norman.mosley ·
We've recently upgraded to Office '97. We are running NT workstations on a Netware 4.11 network. When in an Office application, if the users goto Open on the file menu, the path is too long to display and as the drive letter is the last piece of info on the line, it's not viewable. At the moment a user might see something like.." Appls on 'Abc-er-ehq-01\Vo..." instead of "Appls on 'Abc-er-ehq-01\Vol1' (I:)" We need the users to be able to see what drive they are opening (most users have access to about 12 different drive letters, so it is becoming confusing).

I think the directory name is more important than the drive letter. The path will always remain constant unless mapped as root; however, the drive mappings can be changed. If I store my files under \myfiles, it will always be \myfiles from the root of any regular drive mapping.

If you are not...try using the latest Novell client or even try map root to a deeper folder.

Give this a try:

Create shortcuts to all of the person's drives and rename them I drive, G drive, etc. Put all the shortcuts in a folder in their user directory, and set the default file location option in the office programs to this directory.
