DNS server

By kschild ·
I'm new to windows 2k and i get the following statments in my event log:

The DNS server for this DC does not support dynamic DNS. Add the DNS records from the file '%SystemRoot%\System32\Config\netlogon.dns' to the DNS server serving the domain referenced in that file.

Dynamic registration or deregistration of one or more DNS records failed because no DNS servers are available.

Can someone put me in the right direction? I also have ISA installed on the same DC. The DC is also dubble homed? (two Nic card) one for internal and one external.

I thank you all for your time in this mater

According to Technet, this was a problem in Win2K that they fixed in Service Pack 2.
Please read about this in Technet article Q267845:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=%2fsearch%2fviewDoc.aspx%3fdocID%3dKC.Q267845
(please remove any spaces)

Hope this helps.

Where are you getting your DNS information? If you are getting your DNS from your ISP, the DNS version they are running may not support (or accept) dynamic updates. If this is the case, your best bet would be to set up a DNS server internally and have it forward to the external DNS server.
If you have an internal DNS server, it may not have dynamic updates turned on.
