Am in the shopping process now, and want to order everything at once. I may need an extra router if I do it this way.
Please advise! Thanks. ![]()
I wasn't planning on running an extra set of cables and jacks. ![]()
The internet would be accessed via a wireless router by all computers in the office/plant.
I think it would be a bigger PITA to have to deal with twice the amount of physical plant (cabling, patch, switches, etc) than to just put up with the loss of internet when the server goes down.
And I like playing with the infrastructure!
Does it make sense to keep the internet separate?
Is it feasible, wise, or utterly foolish to even consider setting up a network where the internet would be separate (maybe wireless) from the server?
In other words, workstations would have 2 connections:
Workstations/Server - Router (wireless) - Firewall - Modem - Internet
&
Workstations - Router (wired) - Firewall (if needed?) - Server
Your advice is greatly appreciated as always! (and yes, I know, I've MIA from TR for quite some time)
