domain login

By mike.varney ·
When logging in on a laptop from outside the network and using the compter name not the domain name.I can't get onto the net.But at the office on the network no problem.Dhcp is set on. Release and renew of the address does not fix the promblem. If you change from domain to workgroup no problem.Any ideas.

Domain Login

by leisser In reply to domain login

Hello Mike,
There are two things I can reccomend.
1-check on your laptop if there is any VPN application.
2-Check your DNS Servers, I agree that you are on dhcp, but there could be reccord for your dns's configurations form your office.

I hope it works.
There are few more things you could try.

Internet Issue

by w2ktechman In reply to domain login

when renewing the IP address is it giving an autoconfig address? If so this is the problem.
If so, check the cable and/or reset the router and/or cable/dsl modem.

If not, and it is geting an IP address, go to
start -- run -- type CMD
in the dos window, type IPCONFIG /all
then
Ping (whatever the number is for the gateway), example ping 192.168.0.1

Does it timeout or answer?
If it times out, you have a connection problem or you have a firewall blocking (software).

If it pings, try this
ping microsoft.com

Does it reply or not? If not, it is likely a DNS issue

If it does reply, it is likely being blocked by firewall software
or
it is likely that you need to change your proxy settings

Let me know how it goes
