dos error: 67

By NatCat ·
I am running 4 instances of a telephony aplication I co-wrote. The first instance is always running. But at least once a day I have to reset the other 3 as they have halted due to a dos error 67.

Does anyone know what that is or how I can find out.

DOS Error 67 is a "Too Many Files" error.

There is a limit to the number of disk files that can be open at one time. This error has the following causes and solutions:

Option 1:

More files have been created in the root directory than the operating system permits.

The MS-DOS operating system limits the number of files that can be in the root directory, usually 512. If your program is opening, closing, or saving files in the root directory, change your program so that it uses a subdirectory.

Option 2:

More files have been opened than the number specified in the files= setting in your CONFIG.SYS file.

Increase the number specified in the files= setting in your CONFIG.SYS file and restart your computer.

Good luck

You may also want to change the buffers line in you config.sys file. If memory serves my values used to be:

files=20
buffers=40

I never saw this error unless i really did have too many files open and had to change my code accordingly.

It wasn't the config.sys. I was backing up to a mapped drive that no longer existed. I'm not sure why this affecting only 3 instances of the application and not all 4, but recreating the mapped drive solved my problem.
