Dos printing with netware client32

By mis@morris&associates.com ·
We use dos based (Syspro) inventory software on our netware 4.2 server. We have just installed Client 32 on workstations some run 95, others with 98.

PRINT PROBLEMS ARE:
Having to exit the inventory module (back to main menu) to print the data in full or to get the last page.

Mutiple page reports in some modules put one line only on the second page.

I have changed client32 default capture settings using several parameters.
I have sent print direct (no spooling) and RAW or EMF in printer properties.

We use HP4's with jet direct cards and some local printers. Printing one line on second page seems to be a problem on local printers only.

Having to back out to main menu to print data exist on local and networked printers

You did not mention how you capture the printer. The most reliable to do this is to not use windows to do the capturing. You need to do the capturing in the login script. It should look somthing like this: capture l=<port you are capturing ie LPT1, LPT2> q=<fully distinguished queue name> nff nb nt ti=30 Then set the printer in windows to print to the captured port. Also set windows to print directly to port so that it is not spooled twice. The ti=30 means that the timout is 30 seconds. After30 seconds, your job should print.

Agree with first answer the most reliable to capture network printers is to do the capturing in the login script. The capture command should be something like capture /l=2 q=<queue name> s=<server name> nb nff ti=2. You can get a list of the commandswitches available to the capture command by typing capture /? all and see the reasons for all of them. If the printer is a network printer, not local, then have the print go directly to the printer. If it is a local printer I have had most luck setting the spool settings to RAW. The single line on the second page would seem to be between the DOS program and the printer. The local printer is using WIN9x to control printing.
