Downloading and Saving Files in Vista

By Jmoody10 ·
I've recently upgraded my computer from Windows XP Pro to Vista Ultimate. It was a rather simple process with only one minor bug (my NIC wouldn't work but I still had my onboard that I now use). Now when I download the driver for it or any other file at all, I cannot seem to find the file. If I specify for Vista to save it some where, it will download but the file is never there (or anywhere). Am I missing something? Downloads are allowed under IE7 and I've tried downloading under protected and unprotected mode. I've turned off and on and back off UAC. Any suggestions?

Windows Vista Community here

When you see the Ad Hock Networking Window click on the Back Arrow to bring up the Driver window for Vista.

They are much more likely to know what is happening with your system as they deal with Vista. Most of us here have only played with it for testing purposes and not given it much consideration as it's as yet still too much of an unknown to consider applying across the board.

Incidentally if you know the name of the file that you downloaded a simple search by name should find it for you. That's is if it was actually downloaded and saved to your system. If it's an EXE or something like that IE is unlikely to allow it to be downloaded as it could be a potential threat to the OS.

the default save location in Vista for documents/programs and web pages is to documents folder and pictures in the pictures folder.

see your Windows Vista Help and Support in the menue then search for Find a File you have Downloaded to pull up where Vista's default download locations are.

Possible Solution

Given the age of the post, I would hope this is no longer giving you problems. I had the same issue. Had the problem with IE7, as well as FF. Didn't matter where I downloaded the file.

I had to turn my UAC back on, and that appears to have corrected the problem.
