While installing windows xp( formatted the existing Server2003 software), i faced prorblem in installing the driver.cab(at 11% status of installation process). I encountered this twice, and on the third attempt, i skipped this step and proceeded with the installation process. though apparently OS seems to be working fine, is it going to affect the OS in anyway?

do you mean? How did you skipped the process during 11% of installation? Have you tried installing other XP CD? The only thing I can see is a defective installer you used.

Give your CD a clean. I normally use a CD Cleaning Kit

It comes with a spray bottle and a little contraption to put the CD/DVD into. Spray the CD/DVD lightly and place it in the enclosure and turn the handle. As you turn the handle it moves against a non abrasive cloth. It should be available in most Music stores.

Click Start and type sfc /scannow in the run box and press Enter.

Have your XP CD handy as it should replace the files.

      Check the memory.
You can test the memory by running Windows Memory Diagnostic that can be downloaded from http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp. If memory problems are found, try re-seating the RAM. If it doesn’t work, replace the defective RAM.

Well at a Guess provided you have installed all of the Drivers

No it shouldn’t affect the way that the OS works. This can happen because the Install CD is dirty/damaged or the NB has had more RAM installed that is not properly matched to what is already installed and you get a Timing Issue appear that doesn’t affect the way that Windows Runs but prevents you installing Windows without errors.

When you get errors with the Driver Cabinet File that means that the Default Drivers are not installed for one item at the very least so if you have opened the Device Manager and made sure that there are no Missing Drivers there you will not have any problems. If you have not opened the Device Manager you need to and then if there are any Yellow Triangles with a Black Exclamation Mark through them you need to visit the Makers Web Site and download the required Driver and install it. If you do not already have the latest Drivers you can get them from the Acer Web Site here

      http://tinyurl.com/bp52kb

if you do not know which driver is required you can use the Unknown Device Identifier to find out which Driver/s are missing.

      http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html

Then download the necessary drivers from the above Acer Web Site.
