Dual Boot Vista-Xandros won't boot Vista

By rob.pilgrim ·
I have just installed Xandros Desktop 4 on a new Acer 4310, which i bought because it is available outside Australia with Linux preinstalled.

The Vista section of the Dual Boot won't boot, it just goes blank after being selected.

I cannot access anything in Windows, but I can see from Xandros File Manager that the Acer System Recovery set up is in the D partition. however, it's not responding to the alt/f10 which should set it running during boot up.

So, as I have no Vista DVD ... is there some other way to get the Acer System Recovery to run.

Why? Xandros is giving me some problems and I'd like to install Virtual PC to try some other Linuxes

Lesson Learned

by rob.pilgrim In reply to Dual Boot Vista-Xandros w ...

Well, there was no way to get back to Vista and Xandros DVD would not read, so I bit the bullet and installed a variety of other distros until I found one that works well enough to be the start of that steep learning curve - I can thoroughly recommend Mint; it does most of the things that I expect a P{C to do and - and this is most important - it was the first distro that worked with scanmodem in the sense that I could actually follow the instructions, download and install a driver and, wonder of wonders, get on the 'net!

Linux Mint...

by boxfiddler Moderator In reply to Lesson Learned

I've been running Mint on an older laptop and like it quite well.

It is quite a learning curve - Linux in general that is - but in hopes of providing impetus to your current level of enthusiasm, I'm having a ball rolling with all the dips and curves that learning Linux offers!

I'm dual-booting Ubuntu and XP on my desktop. That has been quite an experience. I put XP on the secondary master, but it just HAD to have a piece of the primary master. So I had to redo Ubuntu. Fortunately, that went flawlessly.

Have fun!
