dual boot Win 98 and Win 2000 Server

By chessmaster315 ·
I am setup to dual boot Win 98 2d edition
with SP2 and Win 2000 Advanced Server. I cant get Win 2000 to recognize my modem, and cant get on the internet with Win 2000. Where do I get the fix to allow Win 2000 to recognize my modem? I cant find it on Microsofts download site. A web address for a free download would be a very good answer.

From the scenario you explained, I will make an assumption, you dont have a proper driver for your Modem. Do get it from your supplier.

You can visit these websites:

http:\\www.winfiles.com
http:\\www.softseek.com
http:\\www.download.com
http:\\www.tucows.com

Just type the model of your modem, you will get the driver.

You double check your modem status in Device Manager (something like device manager in Windows 9x).

Cheers!

It is probably my fault. I should have mentioned that I have the driver. Win 2000 just wont recognize the driver.

ok, your modem is on the ms Hardware Compatibillity List.
check the link:
http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/
if its there.
Second option would be to check the manufacturer's website for a w2k driver for the modem.
3th option is to buy a modem thatson the HCL.

Those are good tries. No my modem is not on HCL for Win 2000 but that doesn't necessarily mean it wont work.
(Thank goodness otherwise Bill Gates would become the most powerful man on the planet) I have seen where microsoft has a fix for this problem earlier, but I can no longer locate it.

Just in case - if you've got an external modem, make sure it's switched on before you boot up W2K
