FAT32 volumes cannot be accessed properly if the computer is started by using another operating system (for example, a Windows 95 using Fat16 or MS-DOS boot disk).
Did you upgrade the 98 os from 95 and leave the file system Fat16? If so, convert it to fat32.

Click Start , point to Programs , point to Accessories , point to System Tools , and then click Drive Converter (FAT32) .

Click Next .

Click the drive that you want to convert to the FAT32 file system, and then click Next .

Follow the instructions on the screen.

Hey...

My answer for all it's worth...
Win2k has an updated version of FAT32 which may be incompatible with Win98. Did u format the with Win98 or WIn2k?
That's all I can think of at the moment, sorry.
