E-Mail : how to stop someone from spoofi

By sekarsc ·
SMTP allows someone to spoof anyone’s id (by changing the from address) and to send out the email. I understand that this can be fixed by putting patches on top of exchange to authenticate the From Addressee

What is this and how to do this?

I think what you're looking for is ResolveP2 functionality. How you enable this depends on the version of Exchange you use. Here's some KB articles that should get you there:

I am not looking for ResolveP2 functionality. I am looking for a solution that stops some one sending a SMTP mail by a Telnet session

Ahhh, now I understand. Check out KnowledgeBase article Q197869. It explains it better than I can. And if I'm still wrong, let me know -- I'm persistant.

Another possibile answer: if you're using Exchange 5.5, you can enable VRFY SMTP through an addition to the registry. I've read it's located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet \Services \MSExchangeIMC \Parameters

value name: EnableVRFY
value type: REG_DWORD
value: 0x1 (to enable)

Note that this is considered a big security hole by most admins, to the point where this functionality is not included in Exchange 2000. If you need this in E2K, you'll need to write an event sink.
