Rule#1) Don't look in newspapers for jobs.

Rule #2) Recruiters will waste your time

Rule #3) Posted job positions will be inundated with overqualified people who wil drop thier income level for almost any position

Your best bet.

1) Research a few companies you'd LIKE to work for.

2) Find out who the proper contact is, HR is OK but the president or owener is your best bet.

3) write out a script just like a sales pitch that explains in brief your goals, qualifications, experience and your offering to the company (what you will bring to the table, knowledge, keen ability to learn etc) . WRITE IT DOWN, SCRIPTED, YOU WONT REMEMBER ON THE PHONE!!

4) Call the specified person, explain yourself (as above) and request an interview.

5) Go and close the deal.

now it may take up to two weeks and a little prospecting, 15-20 calls a day but you WILL find work.

I used to teach a job club and this teqnique worked EVERY time without fail. Wth an 88% success rate, those that were not employed were either, not working at finding work, not being realistic with thier goals or decided to explore other avenues in IT via training in different areas.

Many people will say that the job market is weak, it is only as weak as the applicant. If you can't find work in two weeks, you're doing something wrong, your script may need revising or your resume needs work.

Best of luck to you, you will probably find it easiest to explore an entry level Asst. position or level 1 tech support for a manufacturer which will help you gain the experience needed to find your next IT job.

Let us know how things go and if you find work, which you most definitely will, let us know where and keep in touch.
