Enhancing the speed on my workstation

I have a workstation running on NT 4.0. it is extremely slow and I need to know how to enhance it's speed asap.

Hardware wise, other than adding RAM, it likely makes more sense to buy a new PC.

Software wise, shut down all back-ground programs that are not required to perform the task at hand.

Clean out all superaflous files to free up drive space for the page file.

Purchase Disk-keeper from Executive software, and defrag the drive.

I agree with The Chas, disable any program runnning in the backgroud that u dont use, plus defragment your drive would help too!

I agree with the above and add, have you cleaned out the tempory internet files (*.tmp), backup (*.bak), temporary office files (~*.*), and verified that the windows directory does not have a lot of FFF*.tmp files.

Checked HD space.

Then run scan disk and defrag.
