environmentally safe hardware disposal

By Seadogs ·
We have some old equipment that no longer functions that needs to be disposed of. Primarily these are monitors, but there are a few pc's and misc hardware pieces as well. Can anyone tell me how to go about disposing these in an environmentally safe manner? I haven't been able to find any local recycling places. Thanks!

www.svtc.org and www.paxfund.com/pctips.htm both offer recycling of old PC equipment. Good idea to recycle them because of the amount of lead and other hazardous materials that are in them. You would not want someone to trace ownership back to you if you put them out with the trash.

You can also look for computer salvage companys in the yellow pages. If there are any usable items look for places to donate. The public library may have info on orgs accepting computer donations. Salvage COs will usually pay and donations are tax deductable, every body wins.

have you considered donating to a school that teachees electronics technology?
Schools such as these are always in need of
practice materials for troubleshooting and solder working.
The donations become a corporate tax deduction as well...
