Erratic mouse behavior

By kbutts ·
Toshiba Satellite Pro 425CDC, 40M Ram, Win 95a. Mouse pointer will suddenly and randomly take off and dart horizontally or vertically to edge of screen...sporadically moving by itself. Settings for pointing device in BIOS are set to Simultaneous, the latest Toshiba mouse driver is loaded, the auto-scroll feature is disabled. Any ideas as to why this problem continures to haunt the laptop?
Thanks.

You might have to set the mouse accelaration too high. Try to open the Mouse icon at the Control Panel and click on Motion tab. If you see the pointer speed is set to the fast side, slide it to the left to the slower part. Click on OK to confirm or apply to test the speed.
The mouse driver may come with a sensitivity option, set the sensitivity not too high otherwise you will cause the the mouse to move even with the slightest touch.

Thanks...reset the acceleration to zero, and still has same issue.

Have you checked that there are no conflicts with IRQ's with Sound, Modem or Network card.
Try changing the BIOS setting to other than simultaneous.>!

Reset BIOS to auto, and there are no IRQ conflicts. Same issue. Thanks

Experienced this exact same situation on one of our companies Compaq Armadas. Compaq makes an erratic mouse patch. We tried this with no luck. What ended up fixing the problem was a new keyboard.

If you're sure that it's not an IRQ problem, then in all the cases I encountered with mice, the problem was the mouse itself. Replace the mouse or in this case the whole keyboard and the problem is solved.

You are going ot laugh but it is true. the problem is mosture build up and heat.. take the little cover off the mouse stick.. **** on it of use some compressed air to clean it.. and but the stopper back on.. the mose will stop moving.. not to mention if it is an old mouse cover replace that will also help
