error during 'expect' compilation

by cpfeiffe In reply to error during 'expect' com ...

make sure your library path is aware of /usr/lib.

echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH

if you don't get back /usr/lib as part of the path
you can add it

different syntax for each shell, here is sh syntax
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/lib;exportLD_LIBRARY_PATH

If that doesn't work look in the configure script that you are running and see if it looks for tcl in a specific place. You could change the configure script to look for it in /usr/lib. Also look at any INSTALL or README files in the source folder. Perhaps you have to build a tcl that came with the expect source before moving on.

Since you did get an error, once you think you have everything working and have no errors (with configure, make and make install) run `make clean` and start over. This will gaurantee that you don't have an inconsistent installation.
