GDI stands for Grafical Device Interface.
Can you be more specific about when you get the error?

GDI is Graphical Device Interface is correct. From experience the error is caused by an incorrect version of bus mastering is installed. Bus mastering not being installed or incorrect version is installed usually messes up video operation. Windows 95B comes with PIIX3 but the motherboards produced after July of 1997 need updated version. This only applies if you are using an Intel chipset. There are other options and more detail is helpful for solving this problem.

run dr watson in your startup folder. it will give more detailed info about the error messages when they occur. my experience has been that turning off graphics acceleration solves the problem.
