Error Message when trying to Activate Office 2010

    Locked

    by gbrussow ·

One of the users at our company is running MSWord and MSExcel 2007 on their computer, the user is also running Office 2010 Standard edition. A few weeks ago Outlook 2010 stopped working, we uninstalled Office 2010 and reinstalled it, after the reinstallation we receive an error message when trying to activate Office, “The setup encounters a problem during install. Please review the log files for further information on the error.”
We proceeded to remove Office 2010 and 2007 using the Fix It tools that can be downloaded from the Microsoft website, we installed Excel, Word and Access 2003, we upgraded the programs to version 2007 (the user has got an upgrade package), we then installed Office 2010 but not upgrading Excel and Word to 2010, Excel and Word 2010 are also installed onto the user’s computer. After the installation we received the same error. During the installation, it would take Office 2010 up to 3 hours to install, it would get to a certain point and then stop. The computer is running Windows 7 SP1 32bit. We have also tried installing an Office 2007 without having to upgrade from 2003 but it still doesn’t work.

Google how to remove the office licence from registry. I would remove everything again, all versions. Delete the licensing details from registry after backing up registry just in case, then reinstall the 2010 only assuming it is not just an upgrade. This has worked for me before

Agreed. Try using an Uninstall tool like Revo Uninstaller, using the advanced option to do a thorough cleanup, then a pass with cCleaner to clear up any remaining registry junk.

Ran Revo Uninstaller but the Office 2007 & 2010 do not appear under the Programs and features list, used the Microsoft Hot Fix to remove the Office 2007 and 2010, ran CCleaner to remove keys out of the registry, also deleted the Microsoft Office folder under the Program Files directory on the computer. When installing the Office 2010 there is an error message that pops up, something about the printer driver that is being accessed, we close the message and continue installing Office, When we open Office 2010 it gives us the option to change the product key, (Office 2010 is an OVL package) an error message appears “The setup encounters a problem during install. Please review the log files for further information on the error.” Should we have a look at reloading the user’s computer?
