Event log login/out reports

By courtney ·
I have been auditing logins/outs for months for users. I have been asked to make a report on what times certain users have been loginning in and out. WHat is the best way to do this? How do I print the reports for 1 user at a time?

I had to retrieve that kind of information a couple of years ago. I used Crystal Reports. It had a very easy-to-use format and was already set up to get information from the event logs. We could do one user at a time or serve the data up in any manner we wished.

I like Crystal Reports but if you don't have it but do have the Resource Kit and Access or Excel, you can use a utility called dumpel.exe to dump the logs to a text file and then import the file to an Access database or Excel spreadsheet. You can then use the database functions within those programs to prepare reports on any selection criteria you use.

I'm sure there must also be shareware or freeware utilities that do this - you might check www.tucows.com or other shareware sites to see ifthere is a tool that will work for you.

You can simply open the event viewer then save the view you want as CSV text file. Then use excel to open that text file, you will have an excel file with several columns and rows of event. Sort by user name, you then can single out any user you need to report.
