Excel Open problem

By kauffmanj ·
I have a farily complex and large spreadsheet that I can't open. Last evening I worked on it for 3 hours and no problems. I brought it in to work this morning and attempted to open it I get the following messages:

Exception access: violation (oxc0000005, Address: 0x300a5fld).

I went back home and attempted to open it and same problems.

Are their tools out there to fix excell files like this or somehow recover. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I seriously doubt this will work, but it's the only thing I can think of at the moment:

MS Word creates a backup of every file if such an option is checked. Is it possible that MS Excel does the same? Try changing the file type in the Open dialog box and see if there's something like that there.

Sorry i couldn't help more
(as i said, I seriously doubt it'll work)

Open Word, then go to File/Open and navigate to the folder where your Excel file resides. Change to "Files of Type" to 'All Files', and open the Excel file (you may get a message about file conversion, this is okay). This *should* create a Word table with your data. Next, select all (Ctrl+A) and choose Edit/Copy. Finally, open Excel and choose Edit/Paste. You may lose some of your cell formatting, but your data should transfer correctly. SAVE THE FILE IMMEDIATELY, then apply cell formatting to return to the look and feel that you require.
