Excel simple drop down list

I simply want to insert names and dates into a single cell (I assume using a drop down menu) so as not to clog my spread sheet but still have the log visible when I want it. Each row will have a different set of data (assignment log for past six months), and the data is not listed or pulled from anywhere else. It's a simpler task than most drop down list needs, but I can't figure out how to do it.
