Excel - Sum and Average every other row

By Rosstamon ·
I have an Excel spreadsheet that has data in every other row starting in cell C2 and ending in cell C62. I am trying to get my spreadsheet to calculate the average of all of the data in these cells. I know how to do an average formula, but I don't know how to tell Excel to only average cells C2, C4, C6... C62 and ignore C1, C3, C5... C61. The odd numbered cells have other things in them, sometimes words, sometimes other numbers. So I can't just say "=AVERAGE(C1:C62)". Please help when you have a chance.
Thanks.

Excel does that for you

You can say =Average(c1:C62) provided that you do not have any values in the odd number cells.

Average every other cell

=AVERAGE(C1:C62)is fine unless you have data between each cell. If so, simply determine which cells you want to avg by means of odd or even rows as such:
=IF(MOD(ROW(D22),2)=0,AVERAGE(C1)," ")
then just drag the formula down ......
good luck

Sum and Average every other row

BTW the summation of every other row would be similar:
=IF(MOD(ROW(D22),2)=0,SUM($C1/$C62)," ")

Also...this example would resolve for data in even # rows. For Odd rows:
=IF(MOD(ROW(D22),2)=1,SUM($C1/$C62)," ")
