Excel Trimming Down

By keepbelieving ·
Hi All,

I am trying to use the Function TRIM in Excel 97. There are some blank cells that I need to get rid of, but am experiencing major difficulty in doing so.

Has anyone used this function and is able to better help me understand what I amdoing wrong. What I do is highlight the Spreadsheet and choose the function TRIM, but it continues to give me this return of VALUE instead of removing the blank spaces. HELP ME PLEASE !!!

Highlight what you do not want, and then Edit --> Delete.

TRIM is used for text spacing:
"Removes all spaces from text except for single spaces between words. Use TRIM on text that you have received from another application that may have irregular spacing."

* The Trim function is used to trim extra spaces out of a given string. For Example, if Cell A2 contained the following: " Hi There! "
Then Trim(A2) would produce "Hi There!"

* Trim will not eliminate blank cells.

* The #VALUE! error value occurs when the wrong type of argument or operand is used, or if the Formula AutoCorrect feature cannot correct the formula.

* You cannot highlight an entire spreadsheet, or even multiple cells, and insert a function. It will only insert a function into the first cell (A1 if you highlight the whole sheet).

So let's assume that Bristar's answer is more likely...tell me this please, is there a way to trim more than one string of text simultaneously?
