Exchange 2000 environment

By net-tekkie ·
I have a Win2000 server NFR (10 user). I want to download and install the beta Exchange 2000, but the installation instructions say that there has to be a Win2000 PDC on the network. The Win2000 NFR that I have does not appear to allow it to be a PDC. Does anyone know if this restriction is real?

I'm not saying yours is the same as my NFR, but I've never heard of it. I've loaded new installs and upgrades with 2000 NFR in my lab for DC's and members.

I assume you're specifying what type of server it should be at setup, right?

Win2K installation is different from WinNT where you need to specify the installation is a DC or Member Server from the start and the process is irreversible.

For Win2K, only after the installation, you can decide what it is going to be (DC, DNS,WINS, DHCP, etc). To make it a DC, you need to run dcpromo.exe or use "Configure Your Server" from the administrative tools.

that was just the info I needed--not being familiar with 2000, I didn't know what to look for.
