Exchange Server not receiving or sending

By dbateman@warner-robins ·
Because of the nature of this problem, could you send any advise or help by e-mail to mtdew321@yahoo.com. We are running Exchange Server 5.5 on a Win NT 4.0 system. Due to poor installation of the software the first time, we had to "wipe the slate clean"as they say and reinstalled the Exchange server. We were able to send and receive outside e-mail for a little while after that, but now we can't (Internal mail is alright so messages are being delivered inside our LAN). I have checked the settings and they look like they should work but I am a novice on the Exchanger Server. I need to know what settings need to be in place to receive and send e-mail, so I can double check them. I have pinged our ISP and it replies fine. Although they seem fine, could the problem be in the radio that is receiving the signal from the ISP or the firewall that has been setup (Obviously we are getting on the Internet). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I would check the IMC (Internet Message Connector) settings in Exchange Administrator under "connections" to make sure you are connecting to the mail routers from your ISP. If it worked prior to your wipe and fresh install with the firewall I would rule out the firewall not having the correct ports open for connection. HTH

Go to control panel and open Services. Make sure that all exchange services are running properly. Double-Check this service "Exchange Message Transfer Agent" More than likely this service is stopped, you need to start it. Your problem should be solved. Also to find out what exactly happened, check your system event viewer and go to the date of when the problem first occured.

Try splitting up your domain into sub-domains and connect them through trust relationships via a router or brouter. Although expensive it will **** you away at how much faster you network will perform.

You should use atleast pentium II and atleast 128MB RAM. Also Install more than one hard drive. place your Information store on the drive with the most space. The Exchange System Optimizer "I think that's what its called" will help you with this process.
