Exchange version doesn't update

By KBO ·
After installing the Exchange Post-SP3 rollup patch on my Exchange 2000 Enterprise server, Exchange System Manager still shows the server having the old version and build number. If I look at specific Exchange files, like store.exe, the version and build numbers do show as updated. Is there some reason the version shows incorrectly in Exchange System Manager?

Known Bug

by BFilmFan In reply to Exchange version doesn't ...

It only updates in ESM on clustered Exchange.

I ran across that myself awhile back and Evan has a good explanation of it in his weblog:

Just chalk it up to another sloppy piece of Microsoft code.

Thanks for the information

Thanks very much for your response. The weblog was very informative, and I was especially glad to get the tip on how to display files in Explorer by their version number. Actually, my server is a clustered Exchange server. I only installed the latest (Aug. 2004) rollup patch. Maybe if I had previously installed earlier post-SP3 rollup patches, the version number would have updated. I checked, and my exsetdata.dll file is still the older version 6.0.6249.4, service pack 3. According to the weblog, if that file wasn't updated then the server version display would not be updated.
