    Locked

    by certboy21 ·

One of my user’s Win2K pc is unable to detect cdrom drive. Even an ext cdrw drive is undetectable. When I go to the device manager, the drivers is shown with an exclaim mark. Tried reinstalling drivers but to no avail. MS Kbase didn’t help. Anyone can help?

reload the service pack, or roll it back.

When a device has a yellow explanation mark this is an indication that the device is conflicting with another hardware device. Are you running two CD devices off one cable in the machine? Were they working before or is this a new setup?
Did you jumper them correctly master and slave? Is there an error code associated with the device in Device Manager? Right click the device icon that has the exclamation sign, goto properties, on the general tab in the device status box there should be a code, is there ? what is it? For example a CODE 10 – Device Failed to start- You may be able to resolve this issue by removing the device in device manager and going through the Add New Hardware Wizard in control panel.

      Hope this helps .

      Which drivers are you installing?

The driver that handles the CD-ROM drive is the IDE driver for the chip-set on the motherboard.

The driver that comes with the CD drive is for DOS mode access ONLY!

If you have a DOS mode driver installed that conflicts with the Windows driver, it can impact ALL CD devices.

For CD-RW drives, the burning functions are handled by the burning software itself.
