Are you speaking of the address bar hanging for 30 seconds?

This is actually quite common and can be cleared with a registry edit.

It is usually an issue when there are FTP addresses listed which contain a directory
nested two or more directories below the root address for eg:
ftp.sunet.se/pub/pc/ Will slow IE whereas ftp.sunset.se would ne fine.

For somereason the IE address bar likes to attempt to login to these nested addresses to perform a directory listing.

Fix
---

Access the registry and modify the url entries for
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs by
substituting http for the offending ftp entries or removing the ftp entries al together along with any references to the C drive and other local drives.

But as previously sufggested, running AdAware and AntiVirus products on a regular basis will always help keep IE running better.
