Explorer in XP

By Borg7of9 ·
I was searching in explorer for pst files and they would not show up, I have all the settings properly checked for viewing hidden files etc... but I still can not see them. Its XP home edition and I am logged on as the owner of the machine. When I search from another win98 system onto the XP system, I see the files no problem. How do I ensure I can see all files and folders in XP?
Thanks

Well, I would think they would be showing if you have all hidden files and folders enabled. I guess you can try unhiding operating system files. It might be classified under that. Just a thought.

Try performing a "search" (start/search-all files and folders) for *pst files. Find the pst file you are interested in and note the location path. Open "My Computer" (Windows Explorer in "98) and navigate the path. If prompted to view "system files" answer yes or ok.

In response top answer Number 2 I have done all that, that is why I am askiung the question. I know exactluy where the files are because when I search from a windows98 system across the network it finds them, but when I search locally using the sameparameters they dont!

try clicking Change search preferences,
Change files and folders search behaviour
and finally Advanced
now in the search window you should have three text boxes and three down arrows
When was it Modified?
What Size Is It?
More Advanced Options
Click More Advanced Options And Select
Search Hidden Files And Folders
now you should be able to access them.
