Explorer slow to load

By nberry ·
This is on a Laptop system running Windows 2K. It seems when the CDROM is inserted into the laptop, Explorer takes a very long time to load. ( No cdrom in the tray ) however, If the Floppy drive is in the bay, there is no issue. ( Floppy and CDROM swap into same bay on laptop ) Makes no difference when booting and cdrom is already in the bay. Happens with ANY browse function.

1 - Which "Explorer" (Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer)?

2 - When you say "takes a very long time" can you provide specifics (30 seconds or 5 minutes)?

TIA

Windows explorer....or any Program which as the "browse" feature. When it loads the available drives..thats when it happens.
Usually takes 2-3 minutes. If I close the explorer and re-open it...same thing. Like said, if the Floppy is in the bay....no issue. Only when the CDROM is in the bay ( empty )

Explorer slow to load

Yes that's normal.
It is because the way Explorer "Pre Reads" the file structure and names.
(Happens on a desktop also, but only hardware techs notice it.)
