Failure to connect to SQL Server in SMS

By michelle.wilks ·
We run SMS 2.0 in a mixed environment of Win 95, NT351 and NT4. When trying to run a report an error message keeps appearing stating unable to connect to SQL Server. We know that the account being used is correct and the rights have been set for SMS. The report is there as you can access it through the Report Designer. Does anyone have any suggestions, please?

Thanks

Failure to connect to SQL Server in SMS

by ACGPHX In reply to Failure to connect to SQL ...

The account referred to must either be

A.) a member of the local administrator's local group on the SMS/SQL server or

B.) be a member of the SMSAdmins local group on the SMS/SQL server or

C.) be explicitly granted permissions (either by the domain user account, or by domain global group) to the SMS provider namespace by using WBEMPERM.EXE on the SMS server.

As a side note: I would use the query building wizard first to get the
query you will use in the report to return the datathat you wish. Once
the query returns the data that you intend, you can copy and past the WQL
syntax into the report.

Hope this helps
