    Fax Service Hangs After Restart

    Locked

    by jgreer ·

I am running SBS Server 2003 R2 — I have a new problem that I am unsure how to resolve. For some reason now every time our server is restarted the fax service says its running but the modems will not answer when a new fax comes in. I restart the service and then it fixes the issue. Has anyone else had this problem? I have removed and reinstalled the fax software with no improvement.

but I have set up fax services on quite a few XP boxes, not exact the same OS, or remotely close but… I would often come across, issues when other services would steal the com port and not allow anything else to use it. I would try to see if you could track down any software or service that is grabbing the modum before the fax software tries to utilize it. hopefully that makes sense…

For the time being I would write a little .bat that says:
      NET STOP “SERVICE NAME”
      NET START “SERVICE NAME”
      EXIT
and have that .bat run every time the server is started… its a bandage for the time being.

Allowing the Boot Process to have a break when the system asks for the Password. Leave it that way till all HDD Activity has finished and then press Enter. This break allows the Software to catch up with the hardware and load all of the processes that are set in the Startup Menu. If you don’t do this some services will say that they are running when they are not. 😉
