file names change from burned CD

By MBentley ·
User copied files from a burned CD to his hard drive. File names on the burned CD were in Upper and lower case letters. When he copied the files to his hard drive all the file names changed to UPPER CASE LETTERS. ANY IDEA WHY THIS HAPPENED??(he did a edit, copy & paste procedure to copy files from CD to hard drive)

Hi, you didn't say what OS he's running so I will give this a shot based on past user settings. Go to Windows Explorer, View Menu, Options. Go to the tab for View and the first option should be for the Upper Case setting. I think in Windows 9x, it says allow all upper case, uncheck this, press apply, make sure that all views are the same for all folders, apply, ok, and re-open Windows Explorer. You should now see both upper and mixed case file and folder names.
Hope this helps.

And I thought I was the only one who had seen this happen.

I have seen it happen randomly for both folder and file names.

I have not been able to repeat what causes this to happen on my systems. It has been very random.

I suspect that it is a minor writing error that is causing a name translation error when you copy the file.
