Files disappearing randomly from file server W2K

By rramos ·
We have a weird situation in our office where files from the file server were randomly disappearing leaving the folders or sub-folders appear to be intact, but when you open it there are no files to be found.

Have you turned on auditing to see who or what is deleting those files?

Auditing is on

Yes, we had the auditing turned-on to monitor what was going on in the server; however, what was odd though from the log files was that on 1/16/10, 3:49PM the auditing did not register any logs after that time. At 3:51PM & 3:52PM of the same day, one folder with its sub-folfers were modified and all files (pdf, xls, docs) were missing (approx. 5GB). No trace that it was deleted until one of the user's check the folder and sub-folders, then notified me.
