Question

Locked

Files saved on the desktop disappeared due to profile corruption

By andrewmarian ·
The system was unstable in the morning after resuming from standby mode. Like It showed the antivirus out of date, unable to connect to the internet, prompted for windows, flash and adobe updated. So just restarted the PC then the computer worked perfectly except the desktop files around 150 to 160 files and folders disappeared. Computer is connected to domain and Operating system is windows XP.
1) Tried ???show desktop??? from the taskbar ??? no go
2) Searched for the files by Name and by content of the file ??? couldn???t find any file.
3) Checked on doc and settings whether duplicate user profile exist or user profile been renamed ??? nothing like that.
4) All other setting was just as before.
5) Tried system restores ??? got back the folders but still they are empty. No files found in the folder. Tried some other restore points - still same.
6) Computer is protected with kaspersky enterprise edition.
Any help.

sounds like it was a temporary profile

Hi sometime windows will boot with a temporary profile (it states that right after logon, you have to click ok on the message) but it you click too fast you miss it, and the profile is deleted after you logout. And all associated files disapear as well, i have been burnt by that myself, and lost some items i moved there from a corrupt profile.

you may want to try an undelete program. and search the hard drive for deleted files
