Find Server name from IP Address

By Sheryl V ·
I have an IP address from a server in our organization, what can I use to get the server name? Is there a dos command or anything out there that will help?

did you try using ping <server address> ?
that should return the name...are you inside the LAN or out on the internet trying to do this?

I belive if you log into that server and go to the command prompt. Type "ipconfig /all" it should give you that servers host name.

Thanks, it worked for what I asked! I unfortunately can't find the file I'm looking for on the server, but I'm still looking. But at least I know where to look!

To get the server name from the ip

by Kassimsha In reply to Find Server name from IP ...

Dear friend,

Try to ping with ip address with -a parameter.
eg:
C:\>ping -a 10.1.1.90

(-a) will help you to get the server name while pinging with ipaddress.

Reply me if you are not able to...
