Finding a PC by MAC Address

By djdustb ·
One of our users has requested that I find a PC that is/was on our doamin, he has supplied me with the MAC address and it's old name. using the name I have no leads or history. Can anyone suggest any Tools that can be used to find a Win98/Win2k system on a domain using only the Mac address?

humm If you have WINS running you can try a host name look up to get an IP address then do a ARP request ARP -A at the cmd line. you'l get the MAC address for the IP address from the ARP request. Match the 2 you've got your computer.

The Network Address Inventory script
Use this VBScript to inventory the Host name, IP address, and MAC address of every computer on your network using Microsoft Excel.

This will work as long as the PC in question is logged on to the network

If you run this script on Windows 2000 you will get somthing like "error line 20".
Just open script in notepad and replace all "C:\windows" strings with "C:Winnt".
