FireFox - open only one tab please

By jimmy-jam ·
Question - I have FireFox setup that when I launch it, it open 4 tabs and opens 4 different sites. If I open up a new window it always opens up these 4 tabs.

Is there a way to have a new window up with only one tab? Occasionally I like to open up a new instance of FF to keep certain tasks separate. I can always close my unwanted tabs but...

I assume you are aware that you could just change the home page for Firefox to only be one tab. So, for the occasional single tab browser you could create a shortcut on your desktop as a hyperlink with a single address in it. I, for example, have a shortcut to Google on my desktop that I click on when I just want one tab. Otherwise, my homepage is 3 tabs when I click on the Firefox shortcut. I hope that helps. If you have further questions, please let me know. Thanks.

You can also, as it turns out, create another shortcut to firefox.exe followed by the website you want to open and it will open a single tabbed session such as "c:\program files\mozilla\firefox.exe" "www.google.com" as the shortcut target. Check out http://kb.mozillazine.org/Command_line_arguments for a list of the command line arguments available for Firefox. Hope that helps.

A shortcut with a fixed address could be helpful

I am going to mess around with the command line arguments too and maybe write a batch file to do what I need to do.

Thanks

In Firefox: Go to Tools -> Options, click on the "Main" option and change your home page. Each tab/site should be followed by a vertical bar (|). Then whenever you open Firefox each site will open in a separate tab.

Let me know if that helps or you have further questions. Thanks.

I was wondering if a delimiter like a semicolon or comma would work. Thanks for the info.
