Flash Drive not appearing

By bldsm ·
Hi

I have a brand new 512MB Flash Drive and when I plug it into my 3 month old PC into the usb port it says new hardware is installed (and this is confirmed in device manager) but the drive is not allocated a drive letter and is therefore not accessible for placing data on it.

How can i fix this please?

And how do I set the PC so when I plug this drive in, or the dig camera a window pops up and shows me the files on the device.

Many thanks
Bruce

Did you format the drive?

They don't come out of the package formatted.

Yeah all three I have owned were all formatted and I ran it at work on a win2000 PC fine. Thanks though.

You did not mention Windows version. I assume it is Windows XP. If it is Windows 2000, please make a similar process.
The problem suggests that Windows sees the Flash Drive as a non-plug and play device.

1. Install XP Service Pack 2 and critical updates if not already installed.
2. Uninstall the Flash Drive from Device Manager while it is plugged.
3. Let Windows find the device (and driver if necessary).
4. From Device Manager, View > Show hidden devices > Non-Plug and Play Drivers. Let Windows find (or update) driver for any device with a yellow question mark or exclamation point.
