Flash upgrade for Cisco 871W

By rhard49 ·
I would like to upgrade the flash on my 871w, adding a 32k module to bring it up to 52mb. I see conflicting information as to the procedure. Specfically once installed does all flash need to be formatted to recognise the full quantity. With the new addition does it fail and drop you to rmonitor at which you need to reset the register and format and load the images? I think I have most of it down, but the reset of the register seems a little vague from any documentation I have seen.

same issue with FLASH upgrade

All you need is 4MB flash upgrade. I'm also looking for this information as I ordered a 871W without the ADV-K9 IOS. Finding the part number of this flash is proving difficult. If anyone has info, please share!

Here I am again, a little over 2 years, and I was looking for the part to upgrade. This time I'm going to order it and finally upgrade this router with Advanced IP Services IOS.

some more info:

This is kinda changing some things, but I figure it could help others, maybe even myself 2 years from now.

Here is the latest IOS, and note the increased system requirements:
c870-advipservicesk9-mz.151-4.M1.bin
Release Date: 22/JUN/2011

Size: 25833.77 KB (26453772 bytes)
Minimum Memory: DRAM:192MB Flash:36MB

On http://www.cablesandkits.com I was able to find these parts for a good deal:

128MB DRAM upgrade kit $32.95
16MB Flash upgrade kit $25.95

That would bring me up to 256MB of SDRAM and 40MB of Flash.
