Floppy Light On

By sbrager ·
I've just built a new computer and moved a new floppy drive (purchased a month ago) from the old computer to the new one. Cabled it up. Turned on the new system and everything worked except the floppy. It grinned at me with the light on and a "floppy drive failure" message on the screen.

I re-checked all connectors and cables without success. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks;

Stan

Most of the time this problem occurs when you invert the cable of the floppy drive.
Try to invert the cable at the floppy side.
The red stripe of the flat cable should always be on pin 1.

Thanks for the response but I had previously verified that the cables were correctly installed with the respect to the red stripe and pin 1.

Thanks for the quick response. However, I mentioned that I had rechecked the cables and the connectors. By this I meant that I verified that the cable was connected with the red stripe on pin 1 and that the connectors were making contact with all pins.

I have seen this before, it is possible that you have attached the cable to the floppy drive the wrong way round.
