Floppy Light? Real answer this time..

By qhcomputingny ·
Floppy light remains on constantly.. Can someone give me some insight on how to fix it? Not just "punch the guy who installed it" and get someone else to fix it. I can fix it, the pc is open as I write this and am waiting patiently for an educated answer, LOL.. Thanks
Eddie

Eddie,
I already answered it on your first tread.
The red line on the cable means that that side should go into the pin one side on the connector.
Just make sure you try the cable swap in both ends.

Good luck!

Answer 1 is correct 95% of the time, also if it is an older floppy drive it may have jumpersettings. Be sure the floppy drive is enabled in cmos as well.

If the data cable is not reversed, the power cable can only go in one way, then the drive is bad, replace the floppy drive, they cost $15-20 bucks. The only other idea is to check the BIOS can it see the floppy, is it set to the right type (5.25 or 3.5). I thought of one more, some floppy cables have 4 connectors, only 2 will work with your drive. However the cable has a twist in it, so the computer can see two drives. If the floppy is on the fartherest connector move back. If it does'nt work flip the connector, if it does'nt work the drive is bad.

You might be making this harder than it is. Install a floppy is very easy, thats why you got some of the responses. If you are having alot of problems getting it to work, then the drive is bad.

The most likely problim is that the colored dege of the ribbon cable is not lined up with pin one. (From upgrading & fixing pc's
for dummies 2nd.)

I hope it helps.

heres the 99th opinion(s) or (possibilities)

1. ans 1 is probebly right.
2. the cable could be bad.
3. the onboard FDC might be bad
4. the user might need to be tweaked.
