Has the system been cleaned out?

by seanferd In reply to folder options is missing

You may want to try a variety of scanning and removal programs. It may be possible to fix the system up afterward.

Then again, it may be best to back up all data, wipe the drive, and start fresh.

How were your folders hidden? That is, what method have you used to hide them?

Follow the registry fixes from Jacky Howe

by seanferd In reply to method

To access any hidden folder, though, you just need to type the full path in the Explorer address bar. Then you can select properties and uncheck 'Hidden'.

Definitely follow the permanent fixes as Jacky Howe has prescribed.

Then we can get your other problems fixed as well. Such as:

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer /v NoFolderOptions /t REG_DWORD /d 0

reg add HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer /v NoFolderOptions /t REG_DWORD /d 0

Or better, once you get the registry editor working normally by following Jacky Howe's instructions:
-----------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoFolderOptions"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer]
"NoFolderOptions"=dword:00000000
-------------------

Copy everything between the lines, paste it into Notepad, save it, then change the .txt extension to a .reg extension. Right click the file and select Merge.

If the System is clean

by Jacky Howe In reply to folder options is missing

you can try this to allow hidden files and folders

By setting these Registry Keys to a Value of 1 you will be able to see hidden files and folders. The first one exposes all Hidden files and folders and the second one enables making changes to the View Hidden files and Folders.

User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
Value Name: ShowSuperHidden
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: ( 0 = Hide Files, 1 = Show Files)

User Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL]
Value Name: CheckedValue
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: ( 0 = Disabled, 1 = Enabled)

<i>Keep us informed as to your progress if you require further assistance.</i>

You may have to run this in Safe Mode command prompt

by Jacky Howe In reply to okay

If TaskManager has been disabled this will enable TaskManager to allow access to the Registry.

Command line removal
Click Start Run and type cmd and then press Enter.

Execute the following commands in the command line in order to activate the registry editor and Task Manager: answer ?y? and press Enter.

reg delete HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr

reg delete HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools
