follopy disk fail

By zhouweiqin ·
My Pentium computer started up with message:

Floppy disk fail (40)

I switched a floppy disk, checked cable, and BISO settings. Can?t find any problem. Could be my mother board bad? Any suggestions will help.
Thanks

Try another floppy drive that is known to be good. I am assuming you have the red stripe on pin one of the cable.

With the new floppy disk installed, flip the cable over and see if this works,or try another cable and do the same
Check to make sure the connector is connected to motherboard and the pins on the back

If that does not work, then the controller card has failed. If that is the case, get a second controller card and disable the floppy in the BIOS/MBOARD. The cable will be around the wrong way IF the light is on constantly. BUT I think it is a controller fault (I have been proven wrong)

Make sure that you have the cable in correctly. This usually happens to me when I plug in the cable, that I can't see to well and I miss the first set of pins. I suggest you remove the floppy from the comptuer and hook it up to the comptuer while not in it's bay and see if it works or not.
