formatting the Hard drive of a Laptop pr

By cholt97 ·
I am having a problem formatting a Hard Drive for a laptop.

First of all I have a five percent Dos format already on there.

Heres my problem:

I type format C: /s at the prompt then it says Formatting 157.46M then it stops at 95 percent completed and you can here the Hard Drive doing something then I get this message

Not ready
format terminated

What does this mean? How come I can't format the hard drive to where I'm able to install windows 98 too?

FDisk the thing and start from scratch. You might want to copy anything off of your other partitions (if they exist)first - or not you can always re-create all of your documents and such.

BTW I think your hard-disk is toast and you should get what you can off of it now. If it's getting to 95% and going clickety-lackity your on your way to CompUSA for a new drive.

Good luck.....Jeremy

two partition. c: 130MB d: others
2: but I recommend Answer1.
Once Hard disk failure happen, that is spread. after some time passed, maybe you must hand up the front of crashed Hard disk.

If FDISK does not work then I would suggest using the proprietary software that is associated with that hard Drive. So if you have a Fujitsu hard drive in the system then go to fujitsu.com and download "Disk Go!" usually this helps when I have stubborn hard drives

Okay is the drive a 160MB? If so you are going to have a tight sqeeze to get Windows 98 installed. Further more, if the drive is a 160MB I'd doubt there is a warranty, but the drive is failing and needs to be replaced.

I belive what you are formatting is the sleep mode area, it will store the sleeping computers information to a section. Not sure what to tell you about how to fix.
