fowarding exchange mail

By s2rock ·
I would like to know if it is possible to configure exchange server to forward email to a alternate email address after certain hours. For example when users are at work they will receive their email from their exchange server email address, but when they go home they want any messages sent after 3 o'clock forwarded to whatever email address they use at home. Or would it be possible for them to get their exchange server mail at home some other way?

Thanks
Shawn

You can do this with an Out of Office rule from Outlook. The user will need to activate the rule when they leave for the day, but once they get in the routine of doing so, it will work fine.

Forwarding will work (via rules), but I would prefer a web-enabled solution. We use Outlook Web Access (OWA) with SSL (128bit) for web access to Outlook. That way you also get your Contacts and Calendar. I believe you need Exchange 5.x. You willneed an IIS server (can be the same server if needed). It doesn't have all of the functionality of the Outlook client, but it works well.

Another alternative is to setup POP access to the accounts. Then have clients (any POP client) access the Exchange server as they would an ISP POP account. Along similar lines, you could use VPN, people could use an Outlook client on a home machine, using VPN to access the Exchange server.

1. You can do it only on each indivual accounts from the server by forwarding the emails also to an external email account

2. AutoAssistants
In Microsoft Outlook, AutoAssistants are the Inbox Assistant and the Out of Office Assistant, which can be used to create rules for managing and organizing information. The Inbox Assistant can be used to create rules that automatically filter incoming mail and take a variety of actions such as moving mail messages to a particular folder, forwarding messages to another user, or automatically deleting mail. The Out of Office Assistant can be set to respond to e-mail for users when they are out of the office.
3. All the organizations I have worked for we have been able to access our email accounts throught internet i.e. going to your company web site and clicking on employee login etc. This will be the best solution and if you can manage it worth a promotion. Good luck!
