FTP connection to UNIX

By roman_empire ·
When I try to ftp from NT server A to FreeBSD UNIX server B I receive error "connection failed". However I can ftp from server A to any other server and I can ftp from any other workstation to server B. I think it started happening after I've changed the IP address. Any thoughts?

What IP address did you change, and what ftp client are you using?

Can you ping B? Telnet to it? If not, then ftp is not the specific problem.

Time to look at WINS, DNS, and possibly whether B is configured to disallow FTP from A.

Assumming that you can ping the unix server, you need to make sure it can reciecve ftp requests. The /ect/hosts.allow need to be set correctly, the IP of the NT Server would be great and less of an security risk. The second thing I would check is the /etc/ftpaccess, make sure you have premissions to ftp.
