Gateway wiring diagram needed - Help!

By Rosej ·
An exchange student was planning to take his Gateway back home with him...so disassembled it. His Mom said he had to leave it...so he quickly put it back together and left it for the other exchange students to use. But now it doesn't power up. Powersupply to mother board connection looks OK. My guess is he got the wires switched going to the on-off-reset buttons. But I can't find anyplace that tells me which wires go where. Also, I noticed although there is a big heat sink on the mother board, there isn't any fan in the machine. I don't know if this is normal or if he forgot to put it in. Any help/suggestions appreciated.

SPECS: Gateway G6-366C Micro-ATX made 1/13/99
serial number: 0012500702

Thanks

A couple of thoughts for you. I just looked at a similar system that I have and all of the front panel wires are together in one connector. Are your's separate?

Generally, Gateway used Intel mobos for their systems. You might be able to go to the Intel site and search for old PII motherboards and find the right one. It will take a little digging, but I think you will find the one you are looking for. You really need the layout for YOUR computer, as there are several different version ofone board most of the time. What is good for one version may not work for a later version.

As for the fan, a lot of times, instead of a CPU fan, there will be a "tunnel" of plastic that wraps the CPU and the case fan. In this case, you wouldn'tneccessarily have a CPU fan. Just a couple of thoughts for you.

Heres gateways website you need model and serial number, they do show the connector with what goes there. Does the fan on the power supply spin when plugged in? If not it could be bad or how old is the system? Does it have two connectors to the mother board or one, if its two it could be backwards. If so the mother board is fried. Check the switch on the back of the power supply to see it is at 115v, remove all the connectors from the switches and find the plug that says power if they are unmarked trace the power button wire from the switch. And look for + - on the mother board connectors and plug the red end into each connector and try powering up after each reconnection. ==_===_===_-- on mother board connectors some are only made to accept one size connection.
